There has never been a particularly clear line between art, music, story and life in the world of Elfin Bow.
An artist, musician, writer and storyteller, Elfin Bow brings together song, visual art, landscape and live experience in a richly imagined creative world. Rooted in a lifelong fascination with the relationships between things, her work moves between the ordinary and extraordinary, finding story, meaning and possibility in the world around us.
The Story So Far
Elfin Bow first became known for her distinctive pastoral psych-folk, releasing her critically acclaimed self-titled debut album and later the Rainbows and Gallows EP. Described by Shindig! Magazine as “lyrically astute and melodically inventive”, her music has received airplay on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Wales and independent and international radio.
Her musical world has always extended beyond the recording studio. Album launches at Liverpool's Epstein Theatre and Theatr Clwyd brought together live music, storytelling, visual art, installation, dance and audience participation. She has performed at venues including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and worked with artists and musicians across different disciplines, including a long-standing relationship with Fruits de Mer Records and an orchestral collaboration with composer Gary Lloyd and the Scottish Session Orchestra.
Alongside her musical career, Elfin Bow has continued to paint, draw, write, teach, compose and experiment. Projects including 31 Days of Drawing and January Jack-a-Nory brought original art and storytelling into shared online experiences, while her independent music and film productions opened further possibilities for bringing those creative languages together.
Over time, what had sometimes appeared to be separate creative practices began to reveal themselves as parts of the same landscape.
A Living, Evolving Practice
Today, those strands are converging.
The Living Atlas — An Ecology of Relationship is an evolving body of work exploring our relationships with creativity, memory, landscape, time, one another and the living world.
The Road to Dorotheya, the first album in the Aldon Trilogy, begins a musical journey through forest, mountain and coast, exploring relationship, loss, transformation and becoming.
And through the Wonder Gatherings, Elfin Bow brings music, storytelling, visual art and participation into shared physical spaces, creating encounters in which audiences are invited not simply to watch, but to notice, imagine, remember and become part of what unfolds.
It is a creative journey that has always been vastly more than the sum of its parts.
